Objectives – After Attending This Program You Should Be Able To
1. Evaluate and Manage Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
- Evaluate BPH treatment success beyond simple flow rates by prioritizing functional metrics, such as the preservation of sexual vitality and the synchronization of bladder-outlet synergy.
- Analyze the surgical anatomy required for ejaculatory sparing and compare the strategic placement of temporary versus permanent prostatic stents and implants to optimize tissue-sparing results.
- Develop a systematic “Diagnostic Audit” to distinguish between primary plumbing failures (obstruction) and “short circuits” (neurological or functional issues), allowing for a more precise management pathway for complicated BPH cases.
2. Advanced Endourological Techniques
- Evaluate the efficacy and clinical application of drug-coated balloon dilations compared to traditional methods for managing urethral strictures and distal frontier reconstructions.
- Apply advanced endourological techniques for the management of difficult GU fistulas and complex plumbing challenges, utilizing high-speed video showcases to refine surgical strategy.
- Develop protocols to transition from isolated endoscopic interventions to integrated “FRUE” pathways, ensuring that endourological techniques are utilized to support long-term functional stability and reconstructive success.
3. Address Men’s Health Issues:
- Evaluate contemporary surgical and non-surgical protocols, including penile implants and curvature correction, to restore baseline sexual function and mitigate treatment-related dysfunction.
- Compare the clinical evidence and distinguish between “hype and science” regarding the use of Shockwave therapy, Stem Cells, and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) in men’s health, focusing on evidence-based protocols for penile rehabilitation.
- Formulate tactical strategies for troubleshooting and fixing reoperative challenges and functional failures in penile prosthesis and continence restoration procedures.
4. Manage Female Pelvic Floor Disorders:
- Construct a comprehensive “blueprint” for pelvic health that integrates systemic and local hormone replacement strategies to manage GSM and functional integrity in aging patients.
- Compare the efficacy of structural standards like Mid-Urethral Slings (MUS) and Autologous Pubovaginal Slings (PVS) against emerging “less-is-more” single-incision approaches and targeted resistance therapies like bulking agents.
- Develop tactical strategies for the surgical management of difficult GU fistulas and the multidisciplinary troubleshooting of Interstitial Cystitis (IC) and Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS).
5. Implement Male Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) Treatments:
- Analyze the clinical data and patient selection criteria for “next-gen” continence restoration therapies, including the ACT device and the integration of stem cell-based treatments.
- Compare and contrast the long-term outcomes of full-length Mid-Urethral Slings (MUS) and Autologous Pubovaginal Slings (PVS) to determine the most effective reconstructive roadmap for individual patient profiles.
- Formulate integrated protocols and tactical strategies for the simultaneous restoration of continence and potency, utilizing specialized surgical techniques to address the “Double Whammy” of post-prostatectomy dysfunction.
6. Optimize Neuro-Urological Care:
- Perform a “Diagnostic Audit” to determine the most effective neuromodulation strategy, differentiating between the traditional “Sacral Anchor” and the emerging “Tibial Revolution” (ITNS).
- Assess the clinical utility of “Set and Forget” automated circuits (such as eCoin) versus user-controlled patient-interfacing systems (such as Revi) for managing overactive bladder and neurogenic dysfunction.
- Develop a 2026 “Playbook” that scales the clinical grid by integrating new devices like Altaviva into standard workflows to address the “SNM vs. ITNS” dilemma in neuro-urological care.
7. Advance Reconstructive Urology Skills:
- Describe and demonstrate advanced surgical steps for challenging cases, such as buried penis reconstruction and fossa navicularis repair, utilizing insights from the GURS keynote and high-speed video interfaces.
- Evaluate 15 years of data from the Trauma and Urologic Reconstructive Network of Surgeons (TURNS) to refine patient selection and surgical decision-making for urethral and pelvic reconstruction.
- Practice and refine technical skills through specialized reconstructive maneuvers in the FRUE Lab under the guidance of expert faculty to translate theoretical knowledge into clinical proficiency.
8. Integrate Robotic Techniques in Urology:
- Analyze and evaluate the technical nuances and clinical outcomes of utilizing robotic platforms for challenging reconstructive cases, such as Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Sacrocolpopexy (RALS) and multi-quadrant pelvic floor reconstruction.
- Assess how robotic precision contributes to superior functional results, focusing on the integration of robotic assistance in preserving nerve bundles and optimizing bladder-outlet synergy during reconstructive procedures.
- Formulate strategies and frameworks to incorporate emerging robotic technologies and single-port platforms into surgical practice, utilizing high-speed video showcases to manage the “learning curve” associated with new robotic interfaces.
9. Navigate Career Pathways and Healthcare Landscape:
- Analyze the pros and cons of different practice environments, including academic medicine, private practice, and locum tenens, to identify the optimal “Life Architect” blueprint for specific career goals.
- Develop a framework for engineering a high-performance career in Functional and Reconstructive Urology (FRU), focusing on burnout prevention, leadership development, and maintaining professional vitality.
- Assess the impact of current policy changes and administrative shifts on subspecialty practice, developing tactical approaches to maintaining clinical excellence within complex healthcare systems.
10. Enhance Global Surgical Perspectives:
- Analyze and compare different surgical approaches to complex reconstruction used in diverse international settings, evaluating how resource availability and regional pathology influence technical decision-making and patient outcomes.
- Formulate strategies for establishing long-term, ethical collaborations in functional urology, focusing on capacity building, resident exchange programs, and the integration of “low-resource” innovations into standard practice.
- Develop methods to integrate international patient registries and research data into their practice, enhancing the ability to provide evidence-based care that accounts for global diversity in urologic disease presentation and treatment response.
